BUILDING A BETTER COMMUNITY
Meeting Minutes Thursday June 5th
1. Introduction
Nando welcomed attendees (28 residents attended) and advised that the Mayor was running late but would be attending.
2. Improved communication Channels
a. L’Aspre Community Group (154 members)
b. Neighbourhood Watch (144 members)
c. Group Chat (96 members)
d. Reporting Issues (56 members)
e. Street Party Organisers (10 members)
There were 19 issues reported since the last meeting. Copy attached.
3. Work completed by the Town Hall
Road markings have been repainted, verges have been trimmed back, Overhanging trees have been cutback.
The lock on the casita/basura has been repaired
4. Speeding on the urbanisation remains a problem, in particular on Massil. There was discussion regarding how this could be addressed, one suggestion was to employ speed indication signs but Nando made it clear that it was the responsibility of the Town Hall to recommend a solution and that we would give subsequent feedback into its effectiveness.
5. Pot Holes
Acciona continues to be the main problem re potholes. Nando advised that he has asked the Mayor for a meeting with Acciona management.
6. Procedure for reporting issues to the Town Hall.
Nando reminded that there is a formal method for complaining to the Town Hall and that each resident is able to lodge an issue directly at the office. He also offered to help anyone having difficulties with translation etc. Mark asked if we could re-publish the procedures (see attached)
7. Legalising the status of the Urbanisation
This is very important, and Nando is working on what is required. Without L’Aspre being formally recognised as an association we have no legal standing and therefore cannot take a collective action, for example against Acciona.
8. Damage caused by Construction work. Question was raised as to whether the Town Hall should require a bond from anyone undertaking major work to pay for resulting damage to the urbanisation roads. For example, the damage done to Seguili as a result of building lorries carrying away construction waste. Ieuan Davies to provide before and after pictures.
9. Fire Planning. L’Aspre remains vulnerable as a fire hazard due to the absence of water hydrants. Due to the age of the urbanisation and the lack of an urban plan when it was built there is now an insufficient water supply. This is recognised by the Town Hall and additional work has been carried out creating fire breaks in the Campo.
10.Street lights. It was again stressed to the Mayor that where there are streetlights that these need to be functional and maintained. Jim Lawler asked a question about the recent survey and suggested that the wording was not appropriate. He was asked to provide revised text.
11.Jim Lawler also raised the issue of unlocked Iberdrola boxes and the potential danger that these pose to young children.
12.We remain committed to moving the basura from its current site once the Town Hall has purchased another site. The current building needs to be repainted, and this has been raised with the Town Hall and acknowledged by the Mayor.
13. Cash balance remains Euro 152.80 with no expenditure since the last meeting.
14.Street Party. Good progress has been made since our meeting at the end of April. However we are waiting on confirmation of the venue, likely to be the Cantaro. We will use this event to replenish our funds and will be holding a raffle supported by local businesses.
15.Mayor informed those attending about the Saturday local produce market at the Piscina from 9am to 2pm
